Expanding reach by building the Latista app for Windows 8
This is an example where the business hired an outside firm to quickly copy the iOS mobile app for Windows 8. Some would disagree with this approach, but the business recognized doing so would retain 30% of our revenue for a client only interested if available on Windows - a large corporation with dozens of million dollar construction projects throughout the year.
How I made improvements to an experience the business wanted copied quickly...
While I was eager to redesign the iOS app as well, I was first tasked to supervise the design for the new Windows 8 app. I gained agreement that I could make containable improvements "while we're at it." I ran with it!
After receiving user feedback from both US clients and Russian clients on how confusing the login page was for their users, I cleaned up the experience to provide two clear options, login or try a free demo, and all other secondary less-likely use cases came second. I also took the geek out of the app and replaced the technically accurate Synchronize button with a familiar Login button - something our confused customers will appreciate.
I ensured the firm was aware of and could follow our new visual style guide, something the iOS app will do in its future redesign.
This made a big difference in how the visuals tied with our future direction. After several design iterations I guided the firm towards the new style.
